He is such an underrated composer, and it has been touching to explore his spiritual music.
I am very grateful to Det Norske Solistkor and Grete Pedersen for their deep inquisitive approach to the Via Crucis.
Fun-fact: for the recording I chose to use a Steinway from 1917, which actually belongs to Ris church in Oslo, where we recorded. For me the instrument has a fragility and a differentiation in registers which suits these pieces perfectly.

👓 Gramophone In a recent Gramophone podcast, Andsnes describes Via Crucis as ‘an encounter with Liszt’s soul … a man grappling with the mysteries of faith, redemption and human suffering.’ He highlights the music’s austerity, chromaticism and tonal ambiguity, calling it ‘lost music… full of tension, resignation and stillness.’

„Kiséji” — annak idején egy FaceBook csoport volt, ahol rendszeresen megosztottam barátaimmal azokat a zenéket, amelyek akkoriban hallgattam. Általában (késő) éjszaka tettem fel őket az internetre. Volt ebben valami személyes, ami mindig a pillanathoz kötődött, vagy egy sajátos lelki állapothoz.
A zene által, a zenének köszönhetően próbáltam jelen lenni.
Már régóta nem vagyok a Facebookon, ez a csoport azonban hiányzik.
Az utóbbi időben egyre gyakrabban jutott eszembe, hogy végső soron folytathatnám, pl. a saját honlapomon. Végül egészen mostanáig vártam, hogy újraindítsam — azoknak, akik ismerték az említett FaceBook csoportot, de azoknak is, akik akkor mint sem tudtak a létezéséről.
Hogyan működik?
Időnként (nem túl gyakran) kapsz majd tőlem egy emailt egy linkkel, ami elvezet a zenéhez. Nem lesz sok szöveg (legfeljebb egy-egy internet-hivatkozás azoknak, akiket érdekel).
Mindezt tekintheted helyzetjelentésnek rólam, egy zenei és személyes naplónak…
Ha először kapsz ilyen mailt, ahhoz, hogy továbbiak is érkezzenek, szükséges, hogy válaszolj rá, és ebből megtudjam, hogy a dolog érdekel. Később persze nem kell minden alkalommal reagálnod (persze a válasz, még ha rövid is, mindig jól esik).
Fontos, hogy a honlapon nem őrzöm meg az összes videót, a régieket egy idő után letörlöm.
Ennyi az egész. Jó éjszakát / zenehallgatást!

„Une petite musique de nuit” — c’était autrefois un groupe FaceBook où j’ai partagé avec mes amis mes découvertes musicales. J’ai publié ces posts en général la nuit (tard). C’était quelque chose de subjectif, lié au moment, même à l’état d’esprit; c’était une présence partagée dans la nuit — par la musique, grâce à la musique.
Depuis longtemps je ne suis plus sur FaceBook et la seule chose qui me manque c’est ce groupe.
Dans ces derniers temps je me suis demandé pourquoi je ne continue pas sur internet, éventuellement sur mon site. J’ai attendu jusqu’à maintenant pour le redémarrer — pour les mêmes et pour ceux qui ne connaissaient pas ce groupe FaceBook.
Comment ça marche ?
Tu vas recevoir (pas très souvent) un lien vers une musique — en général sans commentaire (ou avec les liens qui permettent aux curieux d’aller plus loin). Tu peux le considérer comme un journal de bord, un journal musical et personnel…
Si tu reçois ce mail pour la première fois, pour continuer, envoie-moi une réponse pour confirmer que tu es intéressé(e). Plus tard, bien sûr, tu ne dois pas toujours répondre (mais un petit mot reste de temps en temps bienvenu).
Ça ne deviendra pas une vraie archive : je garde sur le site quelques ancienne vidéos mais pas toutes.

“A little night music” — there used to be a FaceBook group where I shared my musical discoveries with my friends. I usually published these posts at night (late). It was subjective, linked to the moment, even to my state of mind; it was a shared presence in the night — through music, thanks to music.
I haven't been on FaceBook for a long time, and the only thing I miss is this group.
Lately, I've been wondering why I don't continue on the internet, possibly on my site. I have waited until now to restart it — for the same people and for some others.
How does it work?
You will receive (not very often) a link to music — generally without comment (or with links which allow the curious to go further). You can think of it as a musical and personal diary…
When you receive this email for the first time, if you would like to continue receiving these emails, send me a reply to confirm that you are interested. Later, of course, you don't always have to respond (but a little word from time to time is always welcome).
It won't become a real archive: I keep some old videos on the site but not all.

The program opens with a performance of “Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden”, sung with a tripping buoyancy of exuberant praise. Gardiner’s recent recording is also joyful, but a bit gruffer. The difference lies in style of dance each group evokes: Gardiner’s dancers are a bit heavy-footed and stern, whereas the Ensemble Pygmalion is graceful ballet.
